And Baby Makes Three.....

Dear Bride to Be,

This year has been a very busy one for me. In 12 months my husband and I bought a house, moved, and had a baby boy. Consequently, 2011 was not as busy a year for weddings as I originally had hoped. No one likes to turn away business, but the thought of running around a reception hall and setting up centerpieces at seven months pregnant was not appealing. I am a good multi-tasker but I needed to draw the line somewhere.

So if I haven't blogged for a while, or written articles, it's not because I don't care. Simply put, having a baby does change everything, and I am looking forward to a less chaotic 2012.

As this is the perfect time for engagements to take place, I will put a little plug in that I am booking 2012 and beyond. I love what I do and it shows. Let me support you in your planning endeavors.

What to do if your venue falls into foreclosure?

Today I was on Chatty Brides.com and read about a bride asking for advice on what to do after learning her venue was in foreclosure.

She had already been told by the facility that she had nothing to worry about, but my suggestion was to think about wedding insurance. As a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants, I am often reading about new services for brides.

Emily and Andrew

On a sunny day in late March, Emily and Andrew were married at the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket, RI. The couple were huge fans of the remodeled mill complex, originally a candy manufacturer back in the 1950's, and visited their farmers market almost every weekend.

A family friend married them in a very special ceremony that encorporated aspects of Andrew's parents' wedding. Afterwards, the guests moved into a separate room for an Indian buffet lunch from India of Providence. The couple also hired a henna artist to give the ladies a real treat and memorable experience.

Like many brides out there, there are little details keeping you up at night. This bride took a look at her shower picture and was shocked at how little she smiled. Now she's nervous about her wedding photos!

If you are feeling this way- RELAX. Your photographer will constantly remind you to smile, and as I suggested, you may want to have a conversation with him or her to relay this fear ahead of time. You know so you can sleep at night....maybe.

Getting the Most out of a Bridal Show

Hi Ladies,

Yesterday, I attended "The Wedding Experience", which is RI Monthly Magazines' first ever Bridal show, held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Warwick. As a planner, I like to network with new vendors, stay on top of wedding trends, and overhear (ever so subtly of course), what brides are thinking.

January and February are typically jam-packed with Bridal shows, but just in case you haven't ventured out due to the weather, here are some tips for attending your next show.

I know that your fiance would rather take his eye out with a hot poker than accompany you to a bridal show. One good reason for taking him is that vendors offer "Bridal Show" only package deals that can save you hundreds of dollars, the caveat is that you have to book with them that very day. But cheer up, most show organizers are now offering special lounges just for men, complete with flat screen TV's and beer. Check ahead as these lounges are often advertised.
You will be asked to write down your name/address so that information can be sent to you. Save your wrists by bringing address labels with you, OR some bridal shows will offer pre-printed labels with your information if you sign up early for the event.
If this is your first Bridal Show, I suggest you just enjoy it and take everyone's literature for now. Most Brides will attend 3 or more bridal shows during their engagement, and you can hone down the list of vendors you need in subsequent shows.
Be cognizant of how comfortable you are speaking to vendors. If someone comes off too "salesy" or aggressive for your taste, move on.

There is nothing more exciting than having that sticker on your shirt that reads "BRIDE". Enjoy this very special time in your life.
